If you are a student who participates in home-schooling, Oklahoma Baptist University readily welcomes you to join our student body. We desire to help make your preparation for college and the admissions process as easy as possible.
Outlined below are a few topics that may interest you as a home-schooled student or parent-teacher. If you have further questions, we are happy to discuss and clarify any information with you.

Academic Requirements for Home-Schooled Students
At OBU, our exceptional liberal arts curriculum and world-class faculty equip you in the areas of strong communication skills, global awareness, and the ability to think critically and creatively from a Christian perspective.
Test Score or Test-Optional Admission
Your admission will be based on a written description or a transcript of your homeschool experience and either an ACT, SAT, or CLT score or supplemental admission documents through the Test-Optional Admission process.
Regular admission requires an ACT composite score of at least 20 or a re-centered SAT score of at least 950.
Your high school curriculum should include at least 17 units, with each unit representing one year of satisfactory work in a particular subject. We recommend that your units be distributed as outlined below:
- English: 4 units of journalism or business English should not be used as substitutes.
- Math: 3 units, including algebra I, algebra II and geometry. Those intending to pursue the Bachelor of Science or the Bachelor of Science in Education in science or mathematics education are encouraged to take as much mathematics as possible, including trigonometry and calculus.
- Science: 3 units of college preparatory science, which may include one unit of general science. The other two should include biology, chemistry, physics or another laboratory science. Those intending to pursue the Bachelor of Science or the Bachelor of Science in Education in science or mathematics education are encouraged to take three units of laboratory science.
- Social Science: 3 units, including courses in American history and world history. Other options include such courses as sociology, economics, psychology, geography and state history.
- Language: 2 units in the same language.
- Academic Electives: 2 units including one unit in computer applications.
Academic Transcripts
We will need a transcript of at least six semesters of your home-school high school work for 9th–12th grades. An umbrella home-school organization or teaching parents may submit your transcript to us. You are welcome to provide your own transcript format as long as it contains the following elements:
- Years of study
- Course titles
- Letter grades
- Credits or Carnegie units completed
- Grading scale
- Cumulative GPA
- Graduation date

Dual Enrollment in College and Home School
If you are completing any dual-enrollment courses (college-level courses that you want to use for both high school and college credit), please indicate the name of the college on your Application for Admission. Your dual enrollment coursework should be included on your high school transcript. To determine transfer credit, we will also need an official college transcript and catalog (or a URL to a webpage that contains course descriptions) for each college-level course.

Academic scholarships and grants are awarded to students based on their academic achievement. The awards are not based on financial need and are renewable provided the student maintains the appropriate OBU GPA. Our scholarship information pages give you a quick idea of how much you can expect to receive in academic scholarships.
We are happy to announce OBU's Bison Pact, which can make your tuition and college education more affordable. If you qualify for Oklahoma’s Promise and complete the required steps, OBU will cover the remaining tuition and general student fees after other state, federal, and OBU aid have been applied.
As a home-schooled student, you are eligible for federal aid if:
- You have completed a high school program (evident with a graduation date on a transcript or letter from your parents), or
- You are beyond the age of compulsory attendance in the state in which the college is located. The age of compulsory attendance in Oklahoma is 18.
