OBU Theatre Auditions

Auditions for OBU Theatre main stage productions are required for theatre majors and minors. Auditions are also open to members of OBU's College Players, current OBU students and faculty, and members of the greater Shawnee community. While theatre majors and minors receive priority consideration for casting, the theatre faculty look for any opportunity to partner with the larger university and Shawnee communities!

Dates for performance auditions will be announced as soon as possible.

Auditions are coming!!!

On Tuesday and Wednesday September 23 & 24, we will hold auditions for Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women", the one-act version, in the Black Box Theatre from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. For auditions, please do the following:

  • Memorize and rehearse a 60-90 second monolog that best displays your performance abilities. Content can be modern or classical, comical or dramatic. Whatever material you feel best displays your ability.
  • Appropriate dress for these auditions is conservative business casual. Ladies, please dress in skirt and blouse. Gentlemen, please wear dress pants and a button-down shirt with a vest or sport coat. No sandals or tennis shoes!
  • Be familiar with the story of "Little Women". While reading the book is ideal, it is a monster, so watching one or more of the film versions is acceptable. I just want you to know what is going on.
  • After preliminary monolog auditions, you will work on cold readings with fellow auditionees.
  • You are not required to attend both days of auditions. I do encourage you to attend both if you can, to observe and learn from fellow auditionees.
  • Be sure to bring your schedule to mark down any scheduling conflicts on the audition form. While conflicts - especially university sponsored events that conflict with rehearsals - do preclude you from being cast, it is important to resolve conflicts earlier than later in the process.
  • Remember that majors and minors are required to audition.
