COVID-19 FAQs

Are vaccinations required for students and employees?

OBU strongly encourages all students and employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine but will not require it for enrollment or employment.

Do I need to wear a mask on campus?

Individuals who have not been vaccinated are encouraged (but not required) to continue wearing face coverings. A new state law prevents school districts and colleges from imposing mask mandates unless a state of emergency is in effect.

To prevent the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19, the CDC recommends all individuals, vaccinated and unvaccinated, wear a mask indoors in public in areas of high or substantial COVID-19 transmission.

Is physical distancing required?

Physical distancing is not required at this time. Classroom capacity and seating will return to normal capacity. Athletic events, performing arts events, and other campus events will be held at full capacity without physical distancing requirements.

What is the cleaning protocol on campus?

OBU continues to clean and disinfect public areas such as classrooms, gathering places, restrooms and residential community spaces daily. Hand sanitizer is available at entrances to campus buildings. Classrooms will continue to have disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer available.

What kind of symptom monitoring is being required?

Students and employees should self-monitor for the following symptoms of COVID-19: fever, sore throat, cough, difficulty breathing, diarrhea or vomiting, new loss of taste or smell, nasal congestion, runny nose, muscle or body aches, fatigue, chills, nausea, loss of appetite, temperature of 100.4ºF or greater, or new onset of severe headache.

If an individual experiences any of these symptoms, they should consult the symptom chart to determine if they should be tested for COVID-19.

Can I get tested for COVID-19 on-campus?

Yes. You can get tested for COVID-19 if you are experiencing symptoms by filling out the symptomatic form online and making an appointment with our campus nurse, Kayla Gibson, to be tested and seen by TEAM Clinic.

Is COVID-19 testing required?

Entry testing to return to campus/classes and random testing throughout the semester will not be required at this time. OBU will seriously consider conducting COVID-19 testing for students and employees to establish a baseline early in the semester if deemed necessary.

What do I do if I test positive for COVID-19?

Students should complete a Positive Test Result reporting form and a member of the COVID Response Team will contact them with next steps. Employees should complete an Employee Health Notification form as soon as possible and then contact their supervisor for next steps.

What are the guidelines for isolation and quarantine?

OBU will require students to self-isolate or quarantine at their permanent residences when at all possible. If the permanent residence is within a 10-hour radius of OBU and the student is healthy enough to travel, the student will be required to go home.

  • Students living in apartments may be able to quarantine/isolate in their apartments if certain conditions are met. In order to determine if this is possible, a member of the COVID Response Team will help assess the circumstances.
  • If it is not feasible for a student to return to their permanent residence, OBU will provide appropriate housing for the student needing to self-isolate or quarantine. Students who need housing through OBU will receive meals and be monitored regularly for their health status. Meal swipes will be deducted from the students’ meal plans for that term while in OBU quarantine housing.
  • Once students meet the self-isolation or quarantine time requirements, they will be allowed to return to campus and normal activities.
  • Students will be given their return dates by a member of the COVID Response Team.

What do I do if I was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19?

Students who were in close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 should complete the Close Contact reporting form if they have not been fully vaccinated. A member of the COVID response team will contact them with further instructions.

Employees who were in close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 should follow the instructions in the Employee Health Notification form.

Will chapel be held in person?

OBU will resume in-person chapel gatherings and student activities this fall with no COVID-19 restrictions.

Will Café on the Hill and other food service locations on campus be open?

All food service locations on campus will be open this fall.
