August Campus Construction Updates

Progress continues across campus as several projects near completion and work advances on Raley Chapel. Here’s a snapshot of what’s taking shape on Bison Hill this month.

Site work around Raley Chapel is progressing rapidly. The parking lot on the north end of the site has been completely poured and preparations for the northern half of the Ichthus are underway. On the southeast corner of the site, the remaining portion of the stream and Water Feature 3 have received their lining and the dry-stack stone walls are nearing completion.

Sod has been installed on the western portion of the site following the completion of the stone walls and grading around Water Feature 4. Lamp posts have been installed throughout the site. Paver installation will begin in the coming weeks for the new plaza, bridge and paver walkway. Irrigation and grading around the cross monument are also complete.

On the second floor of the east wing, floor and wall tile are progressing in the new restrooms, while ceiling grid is being installed in the corridor. On the first floor, taping, bedding and painting are wrapping up, with ceiling grid being installed in the corridor and band rehearsal area.

On the second floor of the west wing, installation of audio/visual cabling is ongoing and floor tile is being installed in the restroom. Grid ceiling installation is also underway.

In the lobby at the south entrance, framing is nearing completion along with in-wall rough-in. Sheetrock and insulation are progressing as well. These new spaces will include restrooms serving the lobby and Potter Auditorium.

Inside Potter Auditorium, the scaffolding has been completely removed and demolition of the staircases is complete. Steel framing to support the stained glass will begin in the coming weeks, with reinstallation of the stained glass expected later this fall.

Geiger Center

Due to continued construction at Raley Chapel, the west entrance to the Geiger Center will remain closed for the time being. Landscape installation will take place in the coming months.

A new loading dock, with new fencing and gates is being completed on the north side of the GC. Concrete work on the east side of the building has been completed providing streamlined access to the cafeteria and lower Geiger Center while eliminating outdated landscape features and adding lawn space for student use.
A new sidewalk has been added to the MacArthur parking lot on the south side of MacArthur Street to create a direct pedestrian path from Agee Residence Center to the east side of campus.

Mabee Learning Center

Renovation of the Mabee Learning Center lobby is nearing completion, with only final punch list items and furniture installation remaining. The updated space provides a more modern and usable area for students utilizing the library.

Updates to the south hallway on the first floor of the Noble Complex are complete, providing an updated look for student-athletes accessing the weight room as well as coaches and faculty with offices on the first floor.

Updates to the first floor of Kerr Residence Center were completed in time to welcome a full house to Kerr for the first time in many years.

Over the past two months, each suite in Taylor Residence Center has received a cosmetic refresh. OBU is getting closer to a fully renovated Taylor Residence Center.
