November 4, 2025

OBU has announced the appointment of Dr. H. Glen Carver as assistant professor of marriage and family therapy in the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences. He will begin his duties Jan. 1, 2026.

Carver brings more than three decades of counseling experience in church, mission and public settings. He holds licenses as both a professional counselor and a marriage and family therapist and has served as an instructor in Liberty University’s graduate counseling program for the past four years.

A 1992 OBU graduate, Carver earned a Bachelor of Arts in pastoral ministry from the university. He then earned a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology and counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

“The MFT Program is very excited about Dr. Carver joining us,” said Dr. Canaan Crane, director of OBU’s Marriage and Family Therapy graduate program. “He brings a wealth of clinical experience as well as diverse experience working in international contexts from his time with the International Mission Board.”

Before joining OBU, Carver served as a part-time therapist at Anchor Ridge Counseling in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, focusing on adult mental health, marriage and relationship issues and sexual trauma recovery.

His previous roles include director and assistant director of member care for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, where he supervised global teams supporting missionaries and their families. Carver and his wife also served as missionaries in East Asia for a decade before transitioning to administrative leadership in missions.

At OBU, Carver will teach graduate courses in marriage and family therapy, supervise clinical training and assist with student advisement, assessment and program accreditation efforts.

Carver said his connection to OBU runs deep. “OBU played a formative role in my spiritual and professional development,” he said. “It is a privilege to return and invest in students preparing for ministry and service through counseling.”
