Operatic Soprano Indra Thomas to Grace OBU’s Yarborough Auditorium Feb. 3

OBU proudly announces the upcoming performance of renowned operatic soprano Indra Thomas, scheduled for 7 p.m. on February 3, 2024, at the Yarborough Auditorium (lower level Raley Chapel) on the campus of OBU.
Thomas, celebrated for her brilliant career as an operatic soprano, graces world-class opera houses and venues. These have included the Metropolitan Opera and the Vienna State Opera. Her performances have echoed in the halls of prestigious venues across the United States, France, Germany, Spain and England, including the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. Thomas has collaborated with top orchestras worldwide, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony and Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra, showcasing her extraordinary vocal beauty and the profound emotional impact of her singing.
Thomas has left an indelible mark on renowned music festivals. Her performances have captivated audiences globally.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, she is the daughter of a minister and a gifted, amateur singer. Her musical journey began in her teens when she garnered widespread attention for her rendition of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" in the Academy Award-winning film "Driving Miss Daisy." Thomas's accolades include an Emmy nomination for her performance of the "Porgy and Bess Suite" on the New Year’s Eve Broadcast Live from Lincoln Center and a Grammy nomination for her recording of Michael Tippett’s "A Child Of Our Time" with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Currently, she is serving as an artist-in-residence at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
The concert is free and the public is invited. Reservations are not required, but seating is limited.
OBU will also host a Friends of the Arts dinner at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 each. Reserved seating will be available at the concert for those attending the dinner.
