OBU to Celebrate Annual Hanging of the Green

OBU will present its 84th annual Hanging of the Green Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium on the university campus. The entire community is invited to attend the festive and free holiday celebration.
Three choirs will perform during the Hanging of the Green including the Bison Glee Club, the Bisonette Women’s Glee Club and the University Chorale. The evening will feature the sounds of the OBU/Shawnee Community Orchestra.
Musical selections to be included in this year’s celebration include “Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow” performed by the Bison Glee Club, “Song of Ruth” presented by the Bisonette Glee Club, and “Soli Deo Gloria” sung by the University Chorale. The combined choirs and orchestra with Stephen Sims as baritone will perform Fantasia on Christmas Carols, conducted by Dr. Timothy Kaiser. Dr. Louima Lilite, Dephanie Lilite and Estelle Lilite will present “Welcome to our World”, followed by “Veni, Veni Emmanuel” performed by the combined choirs and percussion.
During the evening, the University will also recognize 20 outstanding seniors, 10 male and 10 female. The students were nominated and selected by OBU faculty to be given the honor of hanging the green during the ceremony.
The 2022 Hanging of the Green honorees include Christian Barbosa, a sports and recreation major with a coaching emphasis from McAllen, Texas; Gabriel Barnes, a history major with a minor in anthropology from Kansas City, Missouri; Blake Cope, an accounting major from Piedmont, Oklahoma; Joshua Graham, a computer information systems major from Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Benjamin Ludwinski, a criminal justice major with a minor in political science from Fairview, Texas; Taylor Mante, an exercise science major from Abbotsford, British Columbia; Matthew Musser, a global marketplace engagement major with an emphasis in global education, and a minor in social science from Owasso, Oklahoma; Hudson Olmstead, a global marketplace engagement major with an emphasis in global education from Chengdu, China; Judson Roy, a philosophy major with a minor in psychology from Burnet, Texas, and James Stout, a finance major from Claremore, Oklahoma.
The Hanging of the Green honorees also include Katherine Abbe, a nursing major from Melissa, Texas; Anna Caughlin, a finance major from Wichita, Kansas; Victoria Coolidge, a journalism and mass communication major with a media emphasis and a minor in graphic design from Mesquite, Texas; Jenna Eubanks-Gray, a biochemistry major from Holton, Kansas; Annie Grady, an education major from Midwest City, Oklahoma; Devyn Jones, an early childhood and education major from Moore, Oklahoma; Kortni McNutt, an accounting major from Ada, Oklahoma; Katie McQuay, an English major with a professional writing and editing emphasis from Skiatook, Oklahoma; Justus Miller, an art major from Spencer, Oklahoma, and Gracie Pipes, an elementary education major with a minor in TESOL from Crowley, Texas.
Hanging of the Green is hosted by the OBU Division of Music in conjunction with the Office of Student Life. The first OBU Hanging of the Green ceremony was held in 1937. The long-standing holiday event has continued being held at various places on campus and was moved to Raley Chapel in 1961.
