October 20, 2022
Oklahoma Baptist University Theatre will open its season with performances of William Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors.” The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. nightly on Nov. 4, Nov. 5 and Nov. 11. Matinees are set for 2:30 p.m. Nov. 6, Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 in the Craig-Dorland Theatre inside Shawnee Hall on the OBU campus.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased online at okbu.edu/theatre.
“Comedy of Errors,” written by William Shakespeare, is set in the town of Ephesus and outlays a story of mishaps and hilarity. The mayhem begins when Antipholus of Syracuse arrives in town with his servant Dromio. Little does he know that his long-lost twin, also named Antipholus, resides there as well as a twin to his servant Dromio. Tangled instructions, mistaken introductions and comic encounters unfold.
The production is directed by John Dement, director of theatre and associate professor of theatre at OBU.
“Our goal with this show is to really have fun,” Dement said. “It is a comedy show, performed by a cast of very funny actors. Unlike typical Shakespeare productions, you will understand everything that is happening. It is filled with clowning and silly misunderstandings. We look forward to audiences of all ages having a great experience.”
Senior cast members include Jordan Evans, Donald Garrison, Nathan Goforth, Zoe Burdess, Genatta McCleskey and Kennedy Largent. Juniors performing include Jesse Field, Natalie Bright, Alex Wheeler and Jared Thomason. Sophomores Brynne Whitaker and Jordyn Clinton are part of the cast, as well as freshmen Brianna Arledge and Heather Janssen. High school senior Hank Childress is joining the cast for the production.
Serving as production manager for “Comedy of Errors” is Alex Webster, OBU assistant professor of theatre technology and design. Other technical members of the production team include Elaina Davis, stage manager; Joshua McCleskey, assistant stage manager; John Dement, scenic and lighting designer; Jordan Evans, sound designer; Brynne Whitaker, prop master, and Zoe Burdess, costume coordinator.
The costume crew includes Brianna Arledge, Sierra Graham and Hunter Sizemore. Members of the scenic team are Logan Carey, Nathan Goforth, Kennedy Largent, Cole Taylor and Alexander Wheeler. Joanna Potter serves as house manager.
“Comedy of Errors” is the first show of the OBU theatre season. Tickets are now on sale. Find out more about the show, purchase tickets or learn more OBU Theatre’s upcoming productions at the OBU Theatre page.
