Community invited to OBU Homecoming Musical Gala Concert Oct. 14

OBU’s Warren M. Angell School of Visual and Performing Arts will host its annual Homecoming Musical Gala on Friday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. as part of The Weekend festivities. The Gala will be held in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium and is free and open to the public.
Groups performing during this year’s Musical Gala include the OBU Symphonic Winds, Bison Glee Club, Bisonette Glee Club, University Ringers and University Chorale.
The Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Dr. Timothy Kaiser, will perform three pieces including “Charm” by Kevin Putz, “Air for Band” by Frank Erickson, and thematic variations on “Dona Nobis Pacem” by James Sudduth. Dr. Kaiser is assistant professor of instrumental music education.
The Bison Glee Club will perform “Cover Me with the Night” by Andrea Ramsey and “The Holy Heart” arranged by Mary McDonald. Cameron Clark will accompany on the piano for these performances. The Bison Glee Club is under the direction of Dr. Stephen Sims, associate professor of music-worship leadership.
The Bisonette Glee Glub will perform three pieces during the Musical Gala. These works include “Days of Beauty” by Ola Gjeilo, “Song of Ruth” by David Childs and “Music Down in My Soul” arranged by Moses Hogan. Claire Marquardt will be the pianist for these performances. Dr. Kelsey D’Emilio, chair of the division of music and assistant professor of music, directs the Bisonettes.
The University Ringers, under the direction of Dr. Patty Nelson, associate professor of music education, will perform two works. These include “Compilation on Beautiful Savior” arranged by Matthew Compton and “Stand Up for Jesus” arranged by Mark Arnold.
The University Chorale will perform two arrangements during the Musical Gala, including “Soli Deo Gloria” by Lavinia Kell Parker and “The Psalmist’s Meditation” by Norman Dello Joio. They will be accompanied on the piano by Dephanie Lilite. The University Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Louima Lilite, McGavern-Montgomery Professor of Music.
