OBU Streamlines Transfer Process, Helping Students Transfer In More Credit Hours
May 18, 2022
OBU recently implemented changes that will significantly benefit students transferring to the University. The University has streamlined the transfer process and is accepting credit for more courses while also reducing the overall hours required to graduate with most degree plans.
One of the most notable improvements is that OBU will now recognize an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science as fulfilling the requirements for OBU’s common and supportive core within the University’s degree plans, accepting up to 64 hours transfer credit from a community college or junior college. The University has also outlined specific policies regarding the transfer of religion and Western Civilization courses. The full list of transferable courses and other details may be found on the OBU website.
The University also recently made another significant change by reducing the number of hours required to complete the majority of its degree programs. In fact, all OBU degree programs have been reduced from 128 hours to 120 hours, with the exception of those requiring a higher number of hours due to external accreditation.
Another positive improvement made this spring for transfer students was the number of hours needed in residency to graduate from OBU. The University now requires only 31 semester hours out of the final 60 to be completed in residency, including at least one third of the major or area of concentration and one third of the minor. Students may also transfer up to 12 hours of credit during their senior year.
Joshua Pumphrey, transfer admissions counselor, is excited for the changes and looks forward to helping more students come to OBU for the life-changing, transformational education found on Bison Hill.
“The most common thing incoming transfer students want to know is how many credits are going to count if I transfer to OBU,” Pumphrey said. “While this has sometimes been a deterrent in the past, that’s no longer the case. I’m excited to share this good news about OBU’s streamlined transfer policies that will help incoming students transfer more credit hours toward their OBU degree and feel better about their choice to come here knowing they can stay on track for a timely graduation.”
The transfer process at OBU is simple and consists of six easy steps. First, interested students must apply to the University using the free application on the OBU website. Second, they submit a few documents including college transcripts. Third, they fill out the FAFSA so the financial aid team can show them how much they qualify for in financial assistance, including scholarships and grants, demonstrating the affordability and value of a world-class OBU education. Fourth, they pay a small enrollment guarantee deposit of $125, locking in their place as a student and securing their spot to enroll. This payment isn’t a fee; rather, it’s a deposit which then applies to the student’s account and pays for charges for their first semester on Bison Hill. Fifth, students then enroll and provide a few more items such as a student health record. Sixth, they fill out a student housing application.
