OBU Commissions Students and Employees for Global Service During Chapel April 27

April 28, 2022

OBU held a special chapel service April 27 to commission almost 100 students and employees who will serve this summer on Global Outreach trips (GO trips), in internships or at camps. The commissioning service took place inside Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. The student body worshiped together and prayed over teams of people who will represent the University all around the world.

OBU sponsored GO trip teams will travel to six international locations, including England, Greece, North Africa, Israel, Zambia and the Middle East. A group of 16 students and employees will travel to Ecuador on a Study Abroad GO trip, while a group of 15 will travel on a Project Israel GO trip. Global marketplace engagement majors were commissioned for internships in the Middle East, Central America and Oklahoma. Students were also commissioned for church trips to serve in New York, Africa, Germany and the Middle East.Numerous other students and employees will serve in camps, ministries, internships and outreaches throughout the nation this summer, including Falls Creek, Pine Cove City, Mentoring Alliance and more.

Dr. Matt Kearns, director of student ministry, delivered the chapel message. Following his message, students and faculty who will be participating in service this summer began to gather on the steps in front of the stage, holding signs with various names of God. Near the end of the service, the students flipped the signs over, revealing the destinations of their summer service trips.

The service concluded with a word of encouragement and commissioning prayer from OBU President Dr. Heath A. Thomas.

The University has plans for 14 international Global Outreach trips for summer 2023. Learn more about GO trips at OBU.
