University Chorale to Perform at Heritage Church in Shawnee Nov. 14

November 11, 2021

The University Chorale, OBU’s premier mixed chorus, will perform during the morning worship service at Heritage Church in Shawnee Nov. 14. The service begins at 10:45 a.m. The Chorale will perform numerous works while also assisting in leading worship.

Among psalms, other scriptural readings, and congregational songs, the choristers will also sing five prepared works, including “Praise to the Lord” arranged by Christiansen, “Spirit of God” arranged by Loren Wiebe, and “All Breathing Life” by J. S. Bach. The group will also perform “They’ll Know We Are Christians” arranged by Louima Lilite and “Worthy to Be Praised” by Byron Smith.

The University Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Louima Lilite, McGavern-Montgomery Professor of Music and professor of music. Lilite is excited to direct the choir as they lead in worship at Heritage Church.

“I am thrilled the University Chorale will be at Heritage Church to partner with the members of the congregation in worshiping our Lord Jesus,” he said. “People who attend will be ushered into the presence of God with reverence and utmost gratitude. Our prayer is that one and all would leave the worship center refreshed and ready to serve with a rekindled passion for God and neighbor.”

Since its founding in 1963, the University Chorale has been the premier mixed choral ensemble at OBU. Composed of some of OBU's finest singers selected by audition, Chorale's purpose remains the same as it was in its earliest days, “to present advanced choral literature to the OBU campus and community.”

University Chorale maintains an active performing schedule throughout the state, region and on campus. Over recent years the Chorale has appeared at the Southwestern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association, the Church Music Workshop, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, the Oklahoma State Youth Choir Festival and the Oklahoma Music Educators Association in-service workshop. Recent tours have included California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Heritage Church is located at 2100 North Bryan Avenue in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
