OBU to Host High School Musical Themed Biggie Sept. 25

September 24, 2021

OBU’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host their first show of the school year Saturday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. inside Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. This year's theme will be “High School Musical: The Biggie.” Biggie is an annual variety show featuring sophomores, juniors and seniors performing in talented auditioned acts, as emcees and in the stage band. Biggie is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.

“High School Musical: The Biggie” is going to have an early 2000’s theme and a close connection to the Disney Channel movies. According to Mallory Locke, CAB co-chair, “It will be a fun time to remember and laugh at the era when we all grew up.”

The show will be directed by Leavi Everett and Jacqui Denny. It will feature six students emcees, including Bria Evert, Brooke Newby, Anna Caughlin, Justin Koonce, C.J. Haynes and Tim Michaux.

The six performing acts include a variety of exciting student talent. Andrew Roberts and Cason West will perform “Hold on to Me” by Travel Music Love for their act, “American Boys.” Katie Onkst will perform “When There was Me and You” by the cast of High School Musical and Ashley Kasterke will perform “Come Together” by The Beatles.

The group “Andrew’s Angels,” consisting of Andrew Jarboe, Micah Compton, Micah Chapman and Harold Randolph, will perform “Stop this Train” by John Mayer. Abbey Ekrut will perform an original piece titled, “Mystical Explorations.”

A group known as “The Jades” will perform “Human” by Rag N Bone Man. “The Jades” includes Chase Davis, Alethea-Jade Coffey, Brock Brown, Catherine Burgess, Chester Brown and Gannon Dubin.

Between acts, the stage band will entertain the audience while the crew sets up for the next act. This year’s stage band includes Caleb Dyer, Aiden McCormick, Brock Brown, Brock Currie, Cameron Clark, Chester Brown, Emily Day and Lauren Jones.

Biggie is the first of numerous CAB shows to occur throughout the year. Freshman Follies, a freshman-led show, will occur later during the fall semester. CAB will also host numerous smaller holiday-themed shows including Kerr Christmas and Lodge of Love. The show season will end during the spring semester with the large CAB show, Spring Affair.
