OBU Offering Medical Services, Doctor’s Appointments on Campus

October 12, 2020

OBU recently added new medical services on campus, available to both students and employees, to improve the health and well-being of the campus community. The University welcomed Kayla Gibson as the campus nurse in September and also announced a partnership with TEAM Clinics which offers virtual doctor’s office visits in the campus health clinic located in the Geiger Center, room 206.

The combination of the campus nurse along with the telemedicine option through TEAM Clinics allows students and employees to receive urgent/primary care without leaving the campus. Available hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. TEAM Clinics is covered by most insurance companies and no money needs to be exchanged during the visit.

Students may walk-in at any time during those clinic hours in order to be seen by either the nurse or for a telemedicine doctor’s visit through TEAM Clinics. The technology allows the provider to listen to heart and lung sounds through the stethoscope and view the ears, nose and throat with the camera attached to the otoscope.

On-campus testing is available for COVID-19, Flu A and B, Strep, and urine analysis. COVID-19 testing is only available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while all other tests are available during the evening clinic hours as well. Those needing a COVID-19 test must first make an appointment by emailing kayla.gibson@okbu.edu or calling (405) 585-5263. Results for COVID-19 testing are usually available within 15 minutes.

In order to see a doctor or take a test, students and employees must first sign up online with TEAM Clinics, which takes only about 10 minutes, and use organization code d8d490. On the account, patients can upload their insurance card, health information, preferred pharmacy and other relevant information. Once they have created an account, the nurse can see them personally and connect them to a doctor via a virtual telehealth appointment, conducted in the campus health clinic.

TEAM Clinics is an Oklahoma-based company that partners with schools to provide high-quality, quick, on-site healthcare to students using technology to expedite diagnosis and treatment.
