August 11, 2020

A special statement from Oklahoma Baptist University in memory of a dear member of the Bison family

We mourn the passing of Nelle Agee, legendary former first lady and former assistant professor of education at OBU. We celebrate and remember her life and legacy, the impact she made upon so many on Bison Hill and the tradition of excellence she and her husband, OBU President Emeritus Dr. Bob Agee, cultivated on campus from 1982 to 1998.

“Nelle Agee was a fixture at OBU, a deeply loved first lady who touched the lives of so many students, alumni, employees and members of the community,” said OBU President Dr. Heath A. Thomas. “We grieve her loss and pray for comfort for Bob and the entire Agee family. Yet, we also celebrate in knowing that she placed her faith in the resurrection hope of Jesus Christ.”

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in art from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, and a Master of Arts from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Two scholarships are given annually at OBU in honor of the Agees, the Bob and Nelle Agee International Study/Missions Scholarship, for students who participate in a university-approved overseas study program or missions program, and the Bob and Nelle Agee Leadership Scholarship, given to a student who has demonstrated overall campus leadership. In 1999, the University renamed Brotherhood Dormitory to the Bob R. and Nelle H. Agee Residence Center.
