Hurley College Announces Outstanding Senior in Mathematics
May 13, 2020
OBU’s James E. Hurley College of Science and Mathematics has announced the winner of its 2019-20 Outstanding Senior in Mathematics award. This year’s award was presented to Hudson Payne. The faculty from the College informed Payne of the news via a special Zoom call.
Awards to outstanding seniors in all Colleges and Divisions are typically presented in a special awards chapel near the conclusion of the spring semester, which was not held this year due to the University’s move to distance learning. Instead, these students received a personal touch online in their individual presentations.
The Outstanding Senior Award for Mathematics is given to the student graduating during the calendar year who, in the opinion of the math faculty, has demonstrated the most exceptional ability, work ethic, enthusiasm and potential in the field of mathematics.
Payne is a double major in mathematics and physics. He is graduating with honors and discovered a new fractal during his time at OBU. He plans to begin graduate school in the fall at the University of Oklahoma, studying mathematics.
Dr. Chris Jones, dean of the Hurley College, made the presentation, joined by other faculty with words of congratulations for Payne.
