Hobbs College Announces Outstanding Senior in Biblical and Theological Studies
May 13, 2020
The Hobbs College of Theology and Ministry has announced that Dawson Alley is the 2019-20 Outstanding Senior in Biblical and Theological Studies.
This award, along with awards for outstanding seniors in all Colleges and Divisions, are typically presented during a special awards chapel at the conclusion of the spring semester. With the awards chapel event not being held this year due to the University’s move to distance learning, these students are instead being recognized through announcements via the University website and social media channels.
Dr. Bobby Kelly, Ruth Dickinson Professor of Religion, is excited that Alley was chosen for this award.
“Dawson has demonstrated excellence in every aspect of his OBU career,” Kelly said. “Most notably, he has demonstrated academic excellence. He combines a keen intellect with an unrelenting work ethic. He is the student who does all the assigned reading and then asks whether there is anything else the professor might recommend on the topic. Rather than producing arrogance, Dawson’s academic achievements seem to awaken a deeper sense of humility in him. This combination of excellence and humility has a way of challenging other students to be their best. Dawson’s presence raises the level of any class.”
Alley has put his passion for ministry to use during his time on Bison Hill, serving the past two years as part-time youth minister at Hillside Baptist Church in McLoud, Oklahoma. He plans to continue his theological education in the fall at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
