Himaya Delivers Chapel Message Feb. 19 on Significance of Christ Conquering Death
February 19, 2020
Dr. Alex Himaya, senior pastor of BattleCreek Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, delivered the chapel message Wednesday, Feb. 19. The chapel service was held in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium at 10 a.m. on OBU’s campus in Shawnee.
Himaya talked about Jesus’ final moments on earth, his resurrection, how he conquered death and how he returned to see his disciples before his return to heaven. He shared with students how important it is to emphasize the significance of Christ conquering death.
“God didn’t just move the stone to let Jesus out,” Himaya said. “He moved the stone to let us in. As believers, we are called to take this and share with others how Christ conquered death.”
Himaya used all four of the Gospels to share how significant the story is to Jewish culture and to Christians today.
Himaya earned his bachelor’s degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas and his master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. He also earned a doctorate in church growth and evangelism.
BattleCreek Church was founded in 2003 and has significantly grown in attendance since then, under Himaya’s leadership. Instead of one mega building, the church steadily increased its reach with the Gospel in the Tulsa metro area by adding additional locations, including Midtown, Downtown, South Tulsa, Owasso and Jenks, in addition to its home church in Broken Arrow.
