McAfee Kicks Off Spring Chapel Series Jan. 29
January 29, 2020
Michael McAfee, director of community initiatives at the Museum of the Bible and president of Inspire, delivered the chapel message Wednesday, Jan. 29. It was the first chapel of the spring 2020 semester for students on Bison Hill.
McAfee preached from Jeremiah 29. He urged students to engage and seek the city that they are placed in just like God urged the Israelites when they were in exile.
“We are called to be courageous, not isolate ourselves,” McAfee said. “However, as we engage and seek the city we are placed in, we should avoid assimilating to the things of the world.”
McAfee reminded students that while there will always be things around us in the world that are heartbreaking and sad, as Christians, we have hope.
“Where is our hope found?” he said. “It is found in the fact that God sent his son to suffer for us, and after he crushed death and rose again, we can now have hope. We have hope that our savior can get us through any struggle we have because he got through death.”
McAfee is the president of Inspire, a new ministry that creates Christ-centered Bible experiences that deepen faith. In addition to Inspire, he has served as the director of community initiatives at Museum of the Bible since 2013. Through special events, public speaking engagements, writing and other marketing opportunities, he develops brand relationships with key groups and individuals on the museum’s behalf.
Michael and his wife, Lauren Green McAfee, co-authored, “Not What You Think: Why the Bible Might Be Nothing We Expected, Yet Everything We Need.”
He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently a Ph.D. student studying Christian ethics with an emphasis in public policy under Dr. Russell Moore. He is also a teaching pastor at Council Road Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
