OBU to Host Annual Homecoming Fine Arts Showcase Oct. 25

OBU’s Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts will host its annual Fine Arts Showcase Friday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. The event will take place in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. All areas of the College of Fine Arts will be represented during this showcase which is free and open to the public. The showcase is one of the many events happening on Bison Hill as part of OBU’s homecoming festivities Oct. 25-27.
The concert will feature performances by the Bison Jazz Orchestra, True Voice, the Bison Glee, Club, the Bisonettes, University Ringers, the University Chorale, OBU Theatre and 519 Collective. Dr. Chris Mathews, dean of the Angell College of Fine Arts, will introduce and conclude the evening’s festivities.
The Bison Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Justin Pierce, will kick off the night, performing “Jumpin’ at the Woodside.” Following their performance, True Voice, an ensemble of 12 mixed voices, under the direction of Mathews, will perform “Try Everything.”
The Bisonettes, under the direction of Dr. James Vernon, will perform “Nine Hundred Miles.” Mathews will then direct the Bison Glee Club in performing, “Soon-a Will Be Done.”
Dr. Lee Hinson will lead the University Ringers, a student handbell ensemble, in “Bound for the Promised Land.” The University Chorale will then perform “Sweet Rivers,” followed by 519 Collective leading with “For Your Glory.”
The Bison Brigade, OBU’s marching band, will next present selections including “Once Upon a Dream,” “Friend Like Me” and “King of Pride Rock.”
OBU Theatre will showcase songs from their current production of “The Pirates of Penzance,” running Oct. 24 through Nov. 3. The featured songs will include “When the Foeman Bears his Steel,” “A Rollicking Band of Pirates we,” and “With Cat-like Tread.”
All alumni, friends and attendees will then be invited to enjoy the ice cream social in the Geiger Center following the conclusion of the showcase. The Bison Jazz Orchestra will set the mood during the event.
