September 10, 2019
Dr. Louima Lilite delivered the GO Week Chapel message Sept. 9 in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium on the OBU campus in Shawnee. GO Week (Global Outreach) is an annual week dedicated to mobilizing students to serve in global missions efforts.
Lilite urged students to think about the importance of going and serving people who are different than them.
“Run to the messy place,” he said. “God wants you to go there because He wants you to see the transformative power in the messy places.”
Lilite wanted students to consider what it is like to serve everyone, but also those who they might not find themselves hanging out with on a daily basis.
“Joy is found at the point of contact with people that are different than you,” he said. “It isn’t a joy that will fade. It is a joy that comes from serving others in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Dr. Louima Lilite is the McGavern-Montgomery Professor of Music, associate professor of music and coordinator of voice studies at OBU, having served OBU’s Division of Music since 2008.
