OBU Students Attend Central States Communication Association Conference April 3-6

Eleven OBU students and three faculty attended the Central States Communication Association Conference in Omaha, Nebraska, April 3-6 to present their communication research projects.

The group of presenting students included nine communication studies majors, a political science major and a psychology pre-counseling major. The communication studies majors included senior Sarah Claibourn, senior Alena Blakley, senior Ben Cale, sophomore Carly Miller, junior Isabel Palos, junior Hannah West, senior Josh Pumphrey, senior Payton Clark and senior Preston Morris. Senior political science major Nathan Floyd and junior psychology pre-counseling major Gabi Burke rounded out the group of 11 students.

Faculty who presented their research included Dr. Vickie Ellis, professor of communication arts and chair of the Division of Communication Arts; Dr. Kaylene Barbe, professor of communication studies; and Ann McNellis, adjunct professor.

Students researched various topics in communication classes during fall 2018 and submitted their finished research in January 2019. All 11 students who submitted were accepted into the conference for panel or poster presentations.

The mission of Central States Communication Association (CSCA) is to unite and educate people with both an affinity to the central region of the United States and a scholarly interest in all areas of communication for promotion of their mutual goals and advancement of their field. Each year, around 1,000 communication professionals gather at this conference to celebrate the best in communication research, teaching, learning and advocacy.
