Dr. Robert Stewart Coming to Bison Hill for Philosophy Forum Feb. 28 - March 1
February 26, 2019
OBU will host Dr. Robert Stewart Feb. 28 and March 1 for two lectures as part of the Philosophy Forum series. Stewart is the Greer-Heard Chair of Faith and Culture and professor of philosophy and theology at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. The lectures will be held in the Tulsa Royalties Auditorium in Bailey Business Center Thursday, Feb. 28, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. and Friday, March 1, from 4 to 5:15 p.m.
The lecture on Thursday afternoon, “21st-Century Campus Myths,” will explore some common quasi-scientific and quasi-Christian beliefs that are prominent on university campuses, but are more myth than fact, having little to no basis in reason or evidence. On Friday afternoon, Stewart will ask, “Who's Afraid of the God of the Gaps?” This session explores how arguments for God's existence or involvement from gaps in knowledge can be entirely appropriate.
Stewart has been at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for more than 15 years and is the organizer of the annual “Defend Apologetics Conference.” He was also the spearhead of the 12 year run of Greer-Heard Point-Counterpoint Forums, which brought together prominent Christian and skeptical scholars to dialogue on significant philosophical and theological topics.
Stewart has Oklahoma roots, having earned his Bachelor of Arts at Cameron University prior to his master's and doctoral work at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
