Freeman Challenges Students with Message on “Trusting God in Death and Life”
November 14, 2018
Jeremy Freeman delivered the chapel message to OBU students, faculty and staff Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. Freeman is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Newcastle, Oklahoma.
Freeman’s five children were a major emphasis of his chapel message, themed “Trusting God in Death and Life.” He spoke from John 11:1-35 and spoke about two of his sons’ stories, Trey and Caleb. Trey battled a rare form of leukemia and passed away in 2013, and Caleb was in a car accident in December 2017 that left him with a traumatic brain injury. Freeman spoke about facing these tragedies with his family, and how they saw it was for God’s purpose.
“God has a purpose for everything,” he said. “At the end of the day, you either trust Him or you don’t.”
He spoke about God’s purpose and timing. He stated that God operates on His own timetable, and God is never early nor late. He emphasized that God’s timing is always perfect for His plan for us.
Jeremy and his wife, Emily, are both OBU alumni and reside in Newcastle with their children. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from OBU in 1999 and later earned a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2008. He has been the senior pastor of FBC Newcastle since 2009. He previously served as the associate pastor of discipleship and missions at Parkview Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
