Ruth Chou Simons Delivers OBU Chapel Message Oct. 31

October 31, 2018

On Wednesday, Oct. 31, Ruth Chou Simons brought the chapel message to students and faculty at Oklahoma Baptist University. Simons is an artist, author, entrepreneur and speaker. Her Instagram, GraceLaced, has more than 114,000 followers. She spoke from Psalm 42 and shared how best to practice preaching God’s word over one’s self.

She gave students and faculty three tips on preaching truth to yourself. First, she encouraged students to preach the truth about their identity in Christ, reading from Colossians 3:1-10.

“You constantly have to remind yourself who you are in Christ,” she said.

Second, she stated that we must preach the truth about how the cross addresses our every need. She then shared from John 6:35 and Psalm 107:9.

Third, she reminded the audience to preach their eternal hope in Jesus, and she told students that what they practice is what they will become.

“As you leave college, what you actually believe about God is what is actually going to shape your life,” she stated.

She concluded by reading Psalm 16 over the audience and charging them to practice preaching God’s word to themselves.

Simons is a mom to six young boys and wife to her husband, Troy, with whom she leads their GraceLaced ministry team. She and her family call both Los Ranchos, New Mexico, and the Western slope of Colorado, near Durango, their home.
