OBU Student Government to Host Homecoming Parade Nov. 3
October 23, 2018
Oklahoma Baptist University's Student Government Association has announced they will host their first homecoming parade on campus Saturday, Nov. 3. The SGA is bringing back this former OBU tradition and hopes to make it an annual event.
The parade will begin at 12:15 p.m. at the edge of the Oval with eight different floats, consisting of the six social clubs, a harvest court float, and an SGA float. The parade route will travel west down University, ending in the Noble parking lot. The parade is part of OBU’s “Zip, Bang, OBU!” Homecoming 2018, running Nov. 2-4.
The President of SGA, Clayton Myers, is excited for student government to bring back the homecoming parade tradition.
“Homecoming is a time for alumni to come back to campus and reconnect to their alma mater,” he said. “This year, SGA has the opportunity to make that experience better for the alums and current students by creating the inaugural SGA homecoming parade. We hope it will help boost spirit on campus and be something that people look forward to every year.”
The homecoming football game against Northwestern Oklahoma State University will follow the parade at 2 p.m.
SGA Vice President Nathan Floyd is grateful to be part of starting this revived homecoming tradition.
“Homecoming is a time of connectedness and engagement and this event is planned to bring together current students, alumni, and the community of Shawnee,” he said. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for organizations and students to come together on campus. I look forward to the homecoming parade and I hope everyone is as excited as I am.”
The homecoming parade is open to all students, alumni, and the public. For more information about OBU homecoming, view the full schedule.
