BGCO’s Sanders Delivers OBU Chapel Message Oct. 24
October 24, 2018
Todd Sanders, student education specialist and Falls Creek program associate at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, delivered the chapel address at Oklahoma Baptist University Oct. 24. The service took place in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. His message was from 1 Samuel 5:1-12, urging the audience to worship the King.
Sanders discussed the importance of our life story, asking students to consider how the story of their lives will be written.
“If you want to live a life fully surrendered to the Lord, worship the king,” he said. “A life fully surrendered to the Lord ascribes honor, power and glory to God alone as king.”
He emphasized that God is worthy of honor and is not a good luck charm.
“God is not your good luck charm,” he said. “God is worthy of your praise, your honor and your respect in ascribing Him glory. He is not deserving of your acts of presumption, your attitudes of presumption, but I feel like we do that a lot of times in our faith.
“We have our faith and so we tuck it away as this nice little thing that we pull out and we use when we want. So, our primary goal in life is not to glorify God and then make Him known and make disciples, but we treat Him more as a good luck charm. God is worthy of our respect.”
He concluded his message by urging students to follow God’s plan and let their story be told through their obedience to God’s will.
Sanders has served for nine years at the BGCO, and he has faithfully served students and their families through the local church for more than 25 years.
After finishing his undergraduate work at Oklahoma State University, he earned a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree through New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Sanders strives to encourage believers and equip the church through training, resourcing, teaching and preaching the Word of God. He and his wife Angela have been married for 25 years and have two children, Hunter, 22, and Hope, 18. They are members at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and make their home in Edmond, Oklahoma.
