Kimbrough Shares ‘GO Week’ Chapel Message Sept. 12
September 13, 2018
Blake Kimbrough, a missionary with the International Mission Board, delivered the chapel message Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Oklahoma Baptist University. He continued the theme of “The Gospel” for Global Outreach (GO) Week.
He taught from Romans 10:13-17, discussing the Gospel and how it transforms lives. He detailed man’s responsibility after hearing the Gospel and what Christians are called to do with the message of Jesus Christ, as we are to tell everyone about what Jesus has done in our lives.
“Your testimony is amazing, but not all people will believe,” he said. “It’s not our job to make people believe. The Gospel is good and God convicts people to respond to the message of the Gospel. It’s not our job to save people. God saves. I don’t.”
He also talked about his time as a missionary in Africa, as well as the transition he and his family experienced when moving back to America.
He then shared a moving illustration from his time in Africa. As he was traveling to say goodbye to all of the villages where he shared the gospel, the people were smiling and dancing as he came. They mentioned his feet and he didn’t understand what they were talking about.
“Your feet are beautiful,” they told him. “You didn’t save us, Jesus did. Your feet brought the Gospel to us, they are beautiful.”
He closed his message with an invitation to prayer for anyone who has felt called to missions or to serve on a Global Outreach trip.
Kimbrough, along with his wife and four children, serve as missionaries with the International Mission Board. They have ministered for almost 12 years in sub-Saharan Africa. Blake worked primarily as a rural church planter, with a passion for teaching, preaching, evangelism and discipleship. Prior to serving with the IMB, he was the pastor at First Baptist Church in Flat, Texas. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 2004. Blake and his family are currently on stateside assignment in Georgetown, Texas.
