Enrollment Open to the Public for Music Lessons, Ensembles, and Classes at OBU

July 27, 2018

Oklahoma Baptist University’s Music Preparatory Department is now enrolling students in lessons, ensembles and classes for the fall semester. Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate in high-quality musical instruction, conveniently located on OBU’s campus in Shawnee. Whether it’s participation in private lessons, a music ensemble or class, students will find a joyful musical experience tailored to their needs at OBU Music Prep.

OBU's Music Preparatory Department offers private piano, voice, brass, string, wind and percussion lessons, as well as keyboard readiness, keyboard concepts, beginning cello class and Kindermusik classes. For those seeking to be a part of a large vocal ensemble, the department offers three choirs for students ages seven through twelve, including Concert Choir, Shawnee Honor Choir and Discovery Singers. For instrumentalists of all ages, the department offers a string ensemble and jazz ensemble. The Kindermusik program is offered at three levels, with experiences offered from birth through age 5. These classes focus on the developmental benefits of music and movement for the child.

Private lessons are taught by OBU professors, members of professional symphony orchestras and some of OBU’s finest music majors. Lessons are offered in 30, 45 and 60-minute sessions. The prep department also has several opportunities for young, beginner musicians. Keyboard readiness is a class designed to introduce 5- and 6-year-old students to elementary music-reading and piano skills. Keyboard concepts is a more advanced version of the class for second and third graders, while beginning cello class is for 4- to 6-year-old beginners.

The priority enrollment deadline for the OBU Music Preparatory Department is Aug. 1. Enrollment by this date guarantees participants a spot within the program, however, applications will be accepted through August as space allows.
