Songwriter and Author Dennis Jernigan Delivers Chapel Message April 25
April 25, 2018
OBU alumnus Dennis Jernigan, ’81, delivered the chapel address at Oklahoma Baptist University Wednesday, April 25. The service took place in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium on OBU’s campus in Shawnee.
Jernigan spoke on the importance of finding one’s identity through Christ.
“Feelings do not define me,” he said. “My past failures do not define me, my present circumstances do not define me, you do not define me, and I do not get to define me. Only my maker should be the one to define me.”
Having penned songs that are sung in churches and worship gatherings around the world, Jernigan is a worship leader, songwriter and author. Some of his works include, “You Are My All in All,” “Thank You,” “Who Can Satisfy My Soul (There is a Fountain),” “I Belong to Jesus,” “We Will Worship the Lamb of Glory” and several others.
Jernigan has visited Bison Hill several times in the past, both as a speaker and performer. In 2015, he performed some of his most popular works at Oklahoma Baptist University’s Fine Arts Musical Gala, now the Fine Arts Showcase.
He and his wife of 33 years, Melinda, have nine children and reside in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where they are now welcoming grandchildren.
