OBU Partners with PepsiCo Recycling for Bottles, Cans

March 7, 2018

Oklahoma Baptist University recently rolled out more than 100 new recycling containers to help increase sustainability on campus. OBU is partnering with PepsiCo Recycling in the effort. As part of PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose mission, PepsiCo Recycling works with universities and communities nationwide to increase the national beverage container recycling rate.

The bins look like a giant Pepsi bottle and stand almost five feet tall, accepting both plastic bottles and aluminum cans. This provides accessible recycling options for more than 2,000 students, as well as faculty and staff, on Bison Hill

The bins were placed at numerous locations around campus, with 34 outdoor bins, 59 indoor bins, 7 spare bins, and 25 collapsible bins used for special events. This partnership reinforces PepsiCo Recycling and Oklahoma Baptist University’s commitment to protect the planet.

“We know that sustainability is very important to our students,” said Robert Marquardt, manager of facilities services at OBU. “Working with PepsiCo Recycling allows us to provide easy recycling options on campus that make a positive difference in our community and reduce our overall environmental impact.”

PepsiCo Recycling’s bin program has brought recycling to colleges and universities, K-12 schools, high-traffic retail locations, professional sports facilities and other organizations across the U.S. Since 2010, PepsiCo Recycling has helped recycle approximately 179 million bottles and cans.

“PepsiCo is happy to partner with Oklahoma Baptist University as we continue our work to not only provide convenient recycling, but also engage college and university students to make their campuses more sustainable,” said Tim Carey, senior director of sustainability at PepsiCo. “We are proud of these programs, which exemplify PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose mission.”

The University encourages all students, faculty and staff to deposit their plastic bottles and aluminum cans in the new recycling bins to help make the OBU campus more sustainable.
