OBU Alumnus Kirk Shares Experience with Business Students

March 1, 2018

Oklahoma Baptist University’s Paul Dickinson College of Business welcomed alumnus Dr. Lawrence Kirk, ’88, director of Christian education at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, as a guest lecturer Thursday, Feb. 8. The lecture was held in the Bailey Business Center on OBU’s campus in Shawnee to students attending business communication and marketing classes. The lecture was part of the College’s Black History Month series.

Kirk was honored to be back on Bison Hill sharing his wisdom and advice to students and faculty.

“It is an honor to be returning to my alma mater,” he said. “More than 30 years ago, I was on the taking side. Today, I have the opportunity to give back.”

Dr. Daryl Green, assistant professor of business, was encouraged by Kirk’s return to OBU and his message to students.

“Students want to connect and identify with speakers,” Green said. “When you bring a charismatic individual like Dr. Kirk, you are bound to inspire someone.”

Kirk graduated from OBU in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in religion. He then earned a Master of Divinity in theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2002. Kirk earned his Doctor of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2017. He and his wife, Beverly, are also noted seminar leaders and marriage counselors across the nation.
