Author and Missionary Esther Burroughs Delivers Chapel Message

March 14, 2018

Esther Burroughs, author, speaker and retired missionary, delivered the chapel message Wednesday, March 14, at Oklahoma Baptist University. Burroughs used John 1 to illustrate a life of service modeled after Christ. Bob Burroughs, Esther’s husband of 57 years, led worship for the service, which took place in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium on OBU’s campus in Shawnee.

As OBU alumni, Burroughs and her husband were honored to be back on Bison Hill.

“I’m glad to be here,” she said. “This university made a huge difference in our lives. The faculty, the teachers and the friends molded our life.”

Burroughs used John 1:14 to elaborate on the standard set by Christ.

“What a standard for this generation of college young men and women,” she said. “To be the fullness of God’s grace and His mercy.”

She encouraged students to live a life of service and to give freely unto others.

“You are so rich in so many ways,” she said. “God wants all of it through your heart and through the way you serve Him.”

After serving the Home Mission Board (currently the North American Mission Board) for almost two decades in missions and evangelism, Burroughs travels across the country encouraging women and families of all ages. She is the director of Esther Burroughs Ministries: Treasures of the Heart and has authored five books.

Esther and Bob have been married for more than 57 years and are the proud parents of two children and five grandchildren. The Burroughs currently reside in Greer, South Carolina
