Ben Rector, the musician with hits like, “Brand New” and “When a Heart Breaks,” will perform an intimate, acoustic concert Saturday, March 3. The concert will be held in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert will begin at 8 p.m. The concert will also include a performance by The Gray Havens.
Achieving remarkable success as an independent artist, Ben Rector has sold more than 450,000 albums and over five million digital tracks in the course of his young career. His latest album, “Brand New” (2016, Aptly Named Recordings), debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, topped the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Albums chart and peaked at No. 3 on the overall iTunes Album chart.
The buoyant title track, “Brand New,” entered the Top 30 on Pop radio, and placed at Top 5 in the Adult Top 40 and Adult Contemporary formats. On Rector’s most recent tour, he performed for packed houses in amphitheaters and theatres nationwide. He is currently in the studio recording his next album, set to release summer 2018, and will undertake a national headline tour in support of its release this fall.
The concert is proudly presented by OBU’s University Concert Series, an organization serving the student body by providing various events and concerts throughout the academic year. Audra Jones, senior counseling psychology major at OBU and chair of UCS, looks forward to the excitement the concert will bring.
“The upcoming Ben Rector show will be University Concert Series’ biggest show to date,” Jones said. “Students will never see Raley packed with so much energy. You don’t want to miss it.”
