OBU Community Invited to Second Annual Ballroom Dance Class
January 29, 2018
Beginning in February, Dr. Daryl Green, assistant professor of business and Dickinson Chair of Business, along with his wife, Estraletta, will teach a four-week dance series called “Basic Ballroom and Club Social Dance Lessons.” The series will take place each Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Recreation and Wellness Center on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The class runs Feb. 6-27 and culminates March 6 with a practice dance party for all levels of dancers.
Last year’s dance class hosted more than 100 members of the OBU community. Green looks forward to welcoming this year’s participants.
“Music and dancing bring people together,” Green said. “I want people to enjoy themselves. Dancing is fun and good exercise for all ages.”
The Greens have several years of experience in ballroom dancing, including competitive dancing. The class is intended to introduce participants to basic rhythm and dance techniques. The featured dances will be the Bachata and Rumba. Originating in the Dominican Republic, Bachata is an exciting club dance tracing its roots to Afro-Cuban folk dance. Rumba is a popular ballroom dance, which is often set to romantic music.
The classes are open to all OBU students, faculty members and staff. No dance experience or partner is necessary.
