Houston FBC Pastor Gregg Matte to Deliver First Chapel Address of Spring Semester

January 24, 2018

Gregg Matte, senior pastor of Houston First Baptist Church and founder of Breakaway Ministries, will speak at Oklahoma Baptist University Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. His message kicks off the chapel series for the spring 2018 semester at OBU.

Matte, a Houston native, earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2004, he was called to become the pastor of Houston FBC. Under his leadership, the historic church has experienced significant growth, including the addition of four campuses in the greater Houston area.

During his time at Texas A&M, Matte and his roommates began a small Bible study named Breakaway in their apartment. With Matte leading the way, Breakaway Ministries became the largest college Bible study in the nation, reaching thousands of students each week. Though his role with the organization has changed, he continues to serve on Breakaway’s board of directors and continues to have a passion for reaching college students with the Gospel.

Matte is an author of numerous books, the latest being “Unstoppable Gospel.” In 2011, he received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M. He was the first pastor to receive the honor.

In 1997, Matte married his wife, Kelly, and together they have a son and a daughter.
