OBU Welcomes More Than 600 New Students to Bison Hill

Hundreds of students, family members and University employees converged upon the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University Saturday, Aug. 19. OBU hosted its annual move-in day event, welcoming 630 new students to Bison Hill. Current students, faculty and staff greeted a class of 555 first-time freshmen and 75 transfer students to campus.

Move-in day is a staple of the hospitality OBU extends to students and their families. As cars pull in front of the residence halls, throngs of Welcome Week Workers, also known as “Tri-W’s” (pronounced “Tri-dubs”), converge to greet the new students, while cheering, chanting, yelling and shaking their vehicles. Then, an army of Tri-W’s whisk the new students’ belongings away to their rooms, unloading their cars in a matter of seconds. This level of service makes an impression on new students and their families alike.

Move-in day is the kickoff to OBU’s Welcome Week, a time devoted to making new friends, learning OBU traditions and participating in fun activities during the lead-up to classes. Students meet in small groups, participate in community service projects, compete in “Ka-Rip Wars” as they learn the school yell, and participate in The Walk, as they officially join the Bison family.
