Oklahoma Baptist University is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Teresa C. Purcell, who joins the faculty of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts as assistant professor of instrumental music and director of bands.
Purcell earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Texas in El Paso. She then earned a Master of Music in music education and instrumental conducting from Kansas State University. She later earned a Doctor of Musical Arts with an emphasis in instrumental conducting from the University of Oklahoma.
Before joining the faculty of OBU, Purcell served as the doctoral conducting associate at the University of Oklahoma. She previously served as the director of bands at Southeast of Saline School in Gypsum, Kansas, and as a graduate teaching assistant at Kansas State University.
Dr. Christopher Mathews, dean of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts, looks forward to seeing the impact Purcell will have on OBU.
“I’m not only excited to see how she will develop the Bison Brigade and our overall instrumental program, but also to watch our students grow musically, intellectually and spiritually while following her leadership,” Mathews said. “We’re proud to have Dr. Purcell join in the legacy of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts and to leave her own mark on Bison Hill.”
