Students Team with SEDF to Promote Shawnee
June 14, 2017
This spring, Oklahoma Baptist University students Sarah Hancock and Christina Roach gained real world marketing experience working with the Shawnee Economic Development Foundation (SEDF). They worked on improving SEDF’s online presence as well as improving exposure and awareness of the Shell building located at 8032 Industrial Drive in Shawnee. Hancock and Roach’s advice stemmed from principles and tactics learned in their small business marketing class taught by Dr. Daryl Green, OBU assistant professor of business and Dickinson chair of business.
The students helped develop the SEDF’s social media platforms. They set up a professional LinkedIn page, YouTube channel, Fiverr account, and provided suggestions regarding Facebook exposure.
Tim Burg, executive director of SEDF, works alongside Shannon Caldwell, administrative assistant. Not only were the OBU students able to learn from Burg and Caldwell’s business mentorship, they also enjoyed seeing firsthand the impact the SEDF has on the community of Shawnee.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Tim Burg,” Roach said, reflecting on her experience. “I can’t wait to see what is in store for the SEDF.”
Hancock added, “I have learned so much from Tim and it was a great opportunity to work with him. I hope to have an opportunity like this again.”
