May 31, 2017
OBU is proud to announce that several incoming and current OBU students, team members at the Shawnee Chick-fil-A, have received a one year scholarship through Chick-fil-A’s Remarkable Futures initiative. These students were four of 3,424 students around the country chosen to receive $2,500 to begin or continue their education at the educational institution of their choice. They are eligible to compete for the annual scholarship up to four time during their college career.
OBU students nominated and awarded include Seth Huebert, returning OBU student; Alex Bandy, incoming OBU student from Shawnee High School; Cassidy Morton, incoming OBU student from Tecumseh High School; and Tyler Vandivort, transfer to OBU. They join two of their co-workers who are attending other institutions, including Alex Sanchez attending Randall College and Eli Prince attending Seminole State.
Each of Chick-fil-A’s 2017 scholarship recipients were nominated by their restaurant’s independent franchise operator and were chosen from thousands of team member students throughout the country to receive this scholarship based on factors like leadership and community involvement, in addition to academic achievement. Chick-fil-A expanded its scholarship initiative this year, giving team members nationwide a total of nearly $9 million.
Jeff Madison, owner/operator of the Shawnee Chick-fil-A franchise, gave recommendations for each of the award-winning students. He and his wife Kathy, who serves as director of quality and marketing of the Shawnee Chick-fil-A, are highly involved in the community and are excited to see their team members benefit from this scholarship program.
“The Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarship is a great incentive for my team members to perform at work and in the classroom,” Jeff Madison said. “It is also a great tool for me to help cultivate and mentor servant leaders in our community. Any success we enjoy in our business is always a result of the people on our team. These students are representative of the talent we have serving our guests, and Kathy and I are so proud and excited that these young leaders have crossed the paths of our lives.”
Both Jeff and Kathy graduated from East Central University in 1989. Jeff then earned his MBA from Syracuse University. In addition to his role as owner operator, he also serves as an adjunct professor in the Paul Dickinson College of Business at OBU.
