OBU Recognizes Retiring Faculty During Awards Convocation May 10

Two retiring faculty members, with a combined total of 46 years of service, were recognized during Oklahoma Baptist University’s annual Awards Convocation May 10. The event was held in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium.
Connie Peters, instructor in English/TESOL, is retiring after 37 years of service. She joined the OBU faculty in 1980 as an adjunct instructor of English and literature. In 1997, she became an instructor. Peters earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and history from OBU in 1969. She then earned a Master of Arts in English with a concentration in British literature and American literature from the University of Oklahoma in 1970.
Phyllis Tipton, assistant professor of education, is retiring after nine years of service. She taught at OBU from 2001 to 2003 as an instructor of language arts before leaving to direct the after school program for Shawnee Public Schools. She returned to OBU in 2010. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education in 1972 and a Master of Education in early childhood education in 1993, both from the University of Central Oklahoma.
