OBU Marketing Students Work with GF on Competitive Analysis and Online Presence
May 10, 2017
Marketing students from Oklahoma Baptist University gained valuable real-world experience this spring by partnering with international company Georg Fischer (GF). GF offers piping systems, automotive, and machining solutions. The students worked directly with GF’s piping systems plant in Shawnee.
Students Kadrian Shelton, Joshua Timms and Emily Gilbert formed a team and worked alongside Ernie Barber at GF Piping Systems, which offers a variety of materials used to transport water and gases. These products include fittings, valves, measurement and control devices, and pipes or jointing technology. Over the course of the semester, the students provided GF with quality competitor analysis and evaluated the company’s overall online presence.
Shelton said the team learned a great deal from the experience, by applying material learned in class to real-world situations.
“The team engaged in hands-on activities at the plant and in meetings that gave us a better idea of what to expect, what was expected from us, and what to look for inside of the workplace,” she said.
Barber added how beneficial this project has been to GF as well as to the group of students.
“This has been a great opportunity to work with the university and work with students who will be in the business in the next five to ten years,” he said.
