Litton Delivers Message During Woman’s Mission and Ministry Day Chapel March 22
March 22, 2017
Kathy Ferguson Litton delivered the message during Oklahoma Baptist University’s annual Woman’s Mission and Ministry Day chapel March 22. She leads a national ministry for pastors’ and planters’ wives at the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
She taught from Luke 22:39-45, as Jesus prayed on the Mount of Olives the night before his crucifixion.
“The prayer I want you to think about today is this prayer where Jesus said, ‘Not my will but yours be done,’” she said. “I just want to tell you, that’s not a prayer many of us want to pray. In a good moment, in a safe moment, we might be able to say, ‘Your will be done, God.’ That’s exactly what Jesus taught us to pray in the model prayer, in the Lord’s Prayer. But when you pair not my will be done, but your will be done, the stakes get a lot higher.”
Litton’s career in ministry began in 1976 when she married Rick Ferguson and joined him in serving their local church through youth ministry.
After her husband graduated from seminary, Litton officially became a pastor’s wife. Alongside Rick, she served congregations in Missouri, Texas and Colorado. But the course of her life and ministry changed drastically when her husband died following a car accident in 2002.
Just three years after Rick’s passing, Litton made the move to Arkansas to serve on staff at Pinnacle Hills Church. By 2009, God’s provision made her a pastor’s wife once again when she married Ed Litton, pastor of Redemption Church in Alabama.
Her years of experience and heart for ministry also helped launch a new ministry at the North American Mission Board in 2011. “Flourish” is a ministry designed specifically to equip and support ministry wives across North America. She leads that ministry and serves as a national consultant for ministry to pastors’ wives.
Flourish creates community amongst women across the country. With an online blog written by and for ministry wives, regional retreats, community gatherings, and support and leadership from other wives in ministry, Flourish provides invaluable resources and encouragement to the women serving North America through the local church.
