Dilbeck Delivers OBU Chapel Message March 8
March 8, 2017
Dr. Hance Dilbeck, senior pastor of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, delivered the chapel message March 8 at Oklahoma Baptist University. His message came from Mark 14:32-39. He examined four pillars of Christian prayer found in Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane, including intimacy, confidence in God’s power, honesty and submission.
“It’s important for us to learn from the master that when we’re under pressure, when we’re overwhelmed by circumstances, the first thing we do is lift our head up from our circumstances, look to the almighty God, and call Him, ‘Abba, Father,’” he said. “He cares for you. Some of you will stop praying because you decide that God doesn’t care. I don’t want that ever to happen. Don’t ever stop praying because you decide that God doesn’t care for you. He is your Abba Father.”
Dilbeck came to Quail Springs as senior pastor in 2003. He pastored Little City Baptist Church in Marshall County while he was in seminary. He was also pastored the First Baptist Churches of Synder, Noble and Ponca City, prior to Quail Springs.
He was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and graduated from Pawhuska High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in religion from OBU. He then earned both Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Dilbeck has also served as adjunct professor of preaching at both OBU and Southwestern. He has served in many other areas of denominational work as well, having been the featured preacher for Falls Creek youth camp; chairman of the Board of Trustees at OBU; chairman of the Board of Trustees at Southwestern; president of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma; and a member of the Board of Trustees for the International Mission Board.
