OBU to Present Musical Theater Showcase Nov. 18-19

The Oklahoma Baptist University Division of Music will present its Fall Musical Theater Showcase Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Yarborough Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The showcase is under the direction of Dr. Peter Purin, associate professor of music theory, and Rebecca Ballinger, assistant professor of voice. Dr. Keith Whitmore, assistant professor of music, will accompany the performances.
The evening will feature numerous students performing 12 different songs and scenes from musical theater and opera. Songs will be performed from works such as “The Sound of Music,” “Don Giovanni,” “The Secret Garden,” “Titanic: The Musical,” “Annie,” “Little Women,” and more.
Amie Massey, Olivia Jones, Reagan Clark and Dani Carpenter will be featured in “Maria” from “The Sound of Music.” Jones, along with Cassidy Olsen, Jude Balthazar, and Christopher Luckens, will perform “Non ti fidar” from “Don Giovanni.” Massey and Carpenter will then perform “Barcarole” from “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.”
Luckens and Caleb Schantz will then perform “Lily’s Eyes” from “The Secret Garden.” Julie Welch and McKenzie Reece will take on “Colors of Paradise” from “The Spitfire Grill,” while Welch, Emily Wright, and Sydney Mathews will close the first act with “Lady’s Maid” from “Titanic: The Musical.”
Following a brief intermission, the show will resume with “Best of All Possible Worlds” from “Candide,” performed by Olsen, Jones, Balthazar, Schantz and Luckens. Reece and Schantz will then duet with “Bei Mannerin” from “Die Zauberflote.” An ensemble group will then tackle “Never Grow Old” from “Quilters.”
Carpenter and Clark will be joined by Matthew Westfall on “Easy Street” from “Annie.” Mathews, Reece, Welch, Wright and Balthazar will then perform “Five Forever” from “Little Women.”
The evening will conclude as the entire cast performs “Coffee in a Cardboard Cup” from “70, Girls, 70.”
