November 4, 2016
Oklahoma Baptist University’s Division of Music will host its annual Keyboard Academy Nov. 10-11, featuring some of OBU’s own professors and special musical guests. The Keyboard Academy will feature a special recital Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Yarborough Auditorium. The recital is free and the public is invited to attend.
The annual Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts Keyboard Academy is for high school students, who have the opportunity to spend the night on the OBU campus while experiencing in-depth piano study for two days. They meet instructors, attend the recital, stay overnight with a music major, spend time in private lessons, visit a class, spend a session sight-reading, and spend time in the master class with a guest artist. The event is free for students to attend, although advanced registration is required.
OBU faculty Dr. Carol Bell, associate professor emeritus of music; Dr. Mary Chung, assistant professor of piano; Dr. Michael Dean, associate professor of music; and Dr. Ron Lewis, professor emeritus of music, will lead the academy.
The Thursday evening recital will feature guest artist Marina Lomazov, who has established herself as one of the most passionate and charismatic performers on the concert scene today. She is the Ira McKissick Koger Professor of Piano at the University of South Carolina, where she is founder and artistic director of the Southeastern Piano Festival.
Lomazov has performed throughout North America, South America, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Japan and in nearly all of the fifty states in the U.S. Lomazov has given major debuts in New York (Weill-Carnegie Hall), Boston (Symphony Hall), Chicago (Dame Myra Hess Concert Series), Los Angeles (Museum of Art), Shanghai (Oriental Art Center), and Kiev (Kiev International Music Festival). She has won prizes in the Cleveland International Piano Competition, William Kapell International Piano Competition, Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and Hilton Head International Piano Competition.
Her performance will feature Joseph Haydn’s “Variations in F minor” and “Fantasia in C major,” Robert Schumann’s “Kreisleriana,” and Sergei Rachmanioff’s “Prelude Op. 32, No. 12, in G sharp minor,” “Prelude Op. 32, No. 5, in G major” and “Etude-Tableau Op. 39, No. 9, in D major.”
