Deem to Speak at Business Forum Oct. 17
October 6, 2016
OBU’s Paul Dickinson College of Business will host a Business Forum lecture featuring OBU alumnus Adam Deem. The event will be held Monday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. in the Tulsa Royalties Auditorium in Bailey Business Center on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Deem graduated from OBU with a double major in finance and marketing. Long before a Starbucks landed in Oklahoma, Deem’s brainchild business, Deem’s Bean Scene, was established down the street from campus in 1992 with co-owners Dick and Cody Deem. Deem’s unique hangout near campus arose out of a marketing class project in OBU’s own business school.
Two years after the business opened, Deem graduated from OBU with a double major in finance and marketing. After selling Deem’s Bean Scene in 1997, he moved to OKC to work for a Fortune 1000 company as a branch manager, which eventually led him to Fort Worth, Texas. There, he earned an MBA from Texas Christian University in 2000 and went to work for Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor.
In 2009, after a successful career at Merrill, Deem and a fellow co-worker started their own financial planning and investment firm, Teak Tree Capital Management, LLC, based in Fort Worth. Having experienced extraordinary growth, he and his partner now serve more than 300 families and are responsible for more than $300 million in assets.
Deem is a husband, father, tennis player, and mentor. His wife, Adrianne, is a physician, and they have two young children, AJ, 10, and Audrey, 7.
