Come One, Come All to OBU’s ‘Deep Fried Follies’ Oct. 29
October 27, 2016
OBU’s Campus Activities Board will take attendees on a ferris wheel ride to a state fair themed Freshman Follies, Saturday, Oct. 29. “Deep Fried Follies” is the second CAB sponsored student variety show of the year. The event will take place in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 8.
For each of the university’s annual variety shows, CAB hosts auditions for emcee roles and performers. The acts, emcees, directors and the rest of CAB practice intensely to bring the community a spectacular night of comedy, music and performance.
“Deep-Fried Follies” is directed by husband and wife, seniors Gage and Karis Johnson.
The emcees chosen for the show, all freshmen, are responsible for writing and performing skits that occur between acts and performances by the in-house stage band. This year’s emcees include Holliann Burnett, Taylor Daniels, Ashton Malone, Clayton Myers, Hudson Payne and Cameron Veal.
“Blood Harmony,” the first of six all-freshmen acts, will open the show with a cover of “Little Talks.” Ashley Kelly will follow with a dance interpretation of “Difference Maker.” Anne Aguayo will close the first act with an English/Spanish cover of “A Thousand Years/Mil Anos Mas.”
Following intermission, Brady Paul will open the second act with a cover of “Forever Like That.” “Sunny Days” will follow with a cover of “Put Your Records On,” and “The Sisters of OBU” will close out the night with a cover of a musical scene from “Sister Act.”
After “Deep Fried Follies,” OBU’s Bison Jazz Orchestra will host Night of Jazz in the Mabee Suite on OBU’s campus. The event will take place from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. and is free and open to the public.
