‘Backstreet Biggie’ to Bring Back the ’90s to OBU Sept. 17
September 15, 2016
Saturday, Sept. 17, OBU’s Campus Activities Board will transport spectators back to the era of scrunchies, overalls, boy bands and flavored lip smackers with “Biggie,” the first of its annual variety shows. The event will begin at 8 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium and will feature musical acts and skits performed by the university's upperclassmen. Admission is free and doors open at 7:30.
“Backstreet Biggie” is directed by senior students Sarah Moore, of Oklahoma City, and Blake Randolph, of Wichita, Kansas.
For each of the university's annual variety shows, CAB hosts auditions for emcee roles and performers. The acts, emcees, directors and the rest of CAB practice intensely to bring the community a spectacular night of comedy, music and performance.
The emcees chosen for the show are responsible for writing and performing skits that occur between acts and performances by the in-house stage band. This year's emcees include seniors Levi Phillips and Andrew Tucker, junior Hayden Heath, as well as sophomores Anna Arrington, Morgan Cherry and Jacob Jolly.
“The Fade Aways,” the first of eight acts, will open the show with a performance of “My Boo.” “Vertically Challenged” will follow with a performance of “Summer Friends.” The group “Circumvent” will perform “Strike the Match” and “On The Way to Houston” will close the first act with “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”
Following intermission, “Locomotive” will kick off the second half of the show with “Drops of Jupiter.” “Six of One” will perform “Angel of Mine” and “The House is Rockin’” will perform “4th Floor.” “Party of 7” will close out the night with “Say My Name.”
