OBU Hosts NCFCA National Championship, Offers Scholarships to Winners
June 23, 2016
OBU is hosting the national championships for the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association June 21-25. In conjunction with this event, the University recently announced special scholarships that will be awarded to winners of the competition.
The OBU NCFCA Scholarship will be awarded to the first place winners in each of the categories at the NCFCA national championship. The scholarship provides a minimum guaranteed amount of institutional aid and is renewable for four years providing satisfactory progress is made toward the student’s degree. There is a limit of one such award per student regardless of the number of first place finishes the student achieves and regardless of the number of years a student may win the competition.
“We are pleased to partner with the NCFCA in hosting the 2016 National Championships, and in turn, to offer these scholarships to the competition winners,” said Dr. Stan Norman, provost and executive vice president for campus life. “These students and their families are a shining example of the values we hold dear at OBU, striving for academic and personal excellence while growing our faith in Christ. Our relationship with the NCFCA, the competitors and their families has been a tremendous blessing to our University. We pray that with these scholarship opportunities, many of these outstanding students will one join us on Bison Hill as they seek their college education.”
In January 2015, OBU hosted the NCFCA regional qualifier tournament on campus and hosted a national competition earlier this year in March. More than 500 students from all over the country are competing this week in the national championships, featuring competition in both Lincoln Douglas value and team policy debate, as well as interpretive, platform, and limited preparation speech events.
The NCFCA is the oldest and most established homeschool forensics league in the country. NCFCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing communications-based competitive activities, such as speech and debate, to homeschooled high schoolers. NCFCA places particular emphasis on excellence in academics and personal integrity as students learn to communicate more effectively.
